An unexpected cocktail of hip hop dance, song and burlesque, with a funny, aesthetic set design.
In a sweaty, electric New York speakeasy for regulars, five drunken mobsters tear into a voluptuous pin-up girl to Miles Davis, James Brown and Betty Boop… Several styles rub shoulders, and break down to the swing of the 20s and 30s. House dance, light and airy, flirts with the frenzied steps of the Charleston. Breakdance swirls with lindy hop, and hip hop freestyles with explosive jitterbug.
Dance N’ Speak Easy revisits the troubled years of Prohibition in the United States, playing on Afro-American musical references from the 20s to the present day, including 70s blaxploitation and 90s gangsta rap.
